Rescuing Leftover Cuisine
Description of Services: Rescuing Leftover Cuisine is a national 501(c)3 non-profit food rescue organization, operating in cities throughout the United and headquartered in New York City. The Columbus Chapter officially started as a project through the Near Eastside Leadership Academy. The organization provides solutions to prevent excess wholesome cuisine from being wasted. The tagline for Rescuing Leftover Cuisine is simply, " where hunger is the only thing left behind."
RLC approaches the two large issues of hunger and food waste in two main ways.
- First, crowdsourcing is the solution of transportation to volunteers within the communities served. After identifying the homeless shelters of a needy community, restaurants, hotels, and catering companies with excess food in that vicinity are contacted to help support these disadvantaged communities.
- Second, food waste is tackled at its root by aiming to eliminate as much food waste as possible and bringing the remaining excess food to where it is needed most.
